In our most recent concert for the Byrne Harrison Scalia Trio, Rare Melodies Australian Works for Clarinet Viola and Piano, we commissioned five emerging composers to for us. The BHS Trio was mentored through 2017 by pianist Dr Stephen Emmerson, violist John Curro AM, and clarinettist Paul Dean, who emailed us this comment after our last concert: “Being an Australian composer, it is always frustrating to see the big well funded companies in the country completely rejecting Australian music, and your trio played a very successful concert which was all new or extant Australian music. Bravo”.
